What to expect
History
At the start of every appointment your Osteopath will ask you questions about your symptoms, injury or concerns. As we utilise a holistic approach, there may also be questions regarding other lifestyle factors such as sleep, stress and exercise so we can have an overall understanding of your health and create the most appropriate management plan for you. If it’s your first appointment there will be a more thorough history taking about family and medical history, past injuries and a general get to know you!
Assessment
The assessment will involve some clinical tests for us to have a better understanding of your pain or injury, this will involve a variety of different movements. We may also assess other areas of your body that aren’t the site of pain. This is because we believe the body is a unit, so one area of the body may be affecting somewhere else.
Treatment
Treatment will involve a variety of different hands-on techniques that will be individualised to what you need and are comfortable with. These techniques may involve massage, joint articulation, stretching, manipulation, dry needling or myofascial cupping, we will always explain to you why we are doing something before we do it, and ask for your consent to proceed.
Advice
Education and advice are one of the most important parts of an Osteopathic consult, we want you to leave the appointment feeling empowered. Advice will vary for everyone depending on what their goals are, but can include things like exercise prescription, stretches, breathing strategies or mindfulness tips. Ask as many questions as you need, it is your wellness journey.
